We drank from life, is not for sale!
It visualizes a leap of faith and the life that has been lived up to now. The hand painting on the outside represents that life. I am face to face with the result: an awareness of temporality and transience! The overwhelming sadness of a beloved life and everything that is of value to me and that I hold onto slowly dawns on me. But the sculpture also shows curiosity about what is to come. The two halves visualize the source, the inside. What is inside comes out. A warm, earthy glow of iron oxide adds color to the interior. Just as a chick breaks through its shell and enters the outside world, the ceramics of ‘We Drank from Life’ open up from within.
My ceramic sculptures consist of separate parts that can be assembled like a lid on a teapot. When the sculptures are opened, the parts can be used as bowls once again. You can use them to drink hot tea.
We Drank from Life, has been exhibited by Tea, a World of Ceramics, at Gallery Arts Monopole in ST Amands aan de Schelde, Belgium, from September 4th to September 29th 2021.
We dronken van het leven is niet te koop! Het visualiseert een sprong in het diepe en het leven dat tot nu toe is geleefd. De handgeschilderde buitenkant toont dat leven. Ik sta oog in oog met het resultaat: een besef van tijdelijkheid en vergankelijkheid! De overweldigende droefheid van een geliefd leven en alles wat waardevol voor me is en waar ik aan vasthoud, dringt langzaam tot me door. Maar het beeldhouwwerk toont ook nieuwsgierigheid naar wat er nog komen gaat. De twee helften visualiseren de bron, het innerlijke. Wat van binnen zit, komt naar buiten. Een warme, aardse gloed van ijzeroxide voegt kleur toe aan de binnenkant van het beeld. Net zoals een kuiken door zijn schaal breekt en de buitenwereld betreedt, opent het keramiek van ‘We dronken van het leven’ zich van binnenuit. #Levenservaring #Rijkdom #Onbetaalbaar”
